Ying Zhang

Dr Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham. She is a molecular microbiologist with strong interests in biological engineering. Her PhD training and first postdoctoral experience focused on protein manipulation, characterisation and engineering. After moving to the Clostridia Research Group (CRG), now the BBSRC/EPSRC Synthetic Biology Research Centre (SBRC) Nottingham, she has been working with several commercially valuable bacteria including Methanotrophs, using metabolic engineering and synthetic biology approaches to generate novel strains with advanced properties such as enhanced product yield and selectivity. Her current research in synthetic and engineering biology focuses on designing/redesigning pathways, biological components and devices for the production of both medically and industrially important commodities.
