The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has appointed Dr Libby Graham – a European specialist in Veterinary Microbiology – as its new Diagnostic Laboratories Manager, who joins the Pathobiology and Population Sciences Department, located at the RVC’s Hawkshead campus, Potters Bar.
From June 2025, Libby will help shape the future direction and success of the RVC’s Diagnostic Laboratories, which provides specialist veterinary diagnostic and research laboratory services for the RVC’s Queen Mother Hospital for Small Animals, Europe’s largest small animal referral hospital, as well as other national and international veterinary practices and institutions.

Libby holds 20 years’ experience working in veterinary diagnostic laboratories, including 15 years in operational management across commercial, higher education, and contract research sectors. Her responsibilities spanned operational oversight alongside strategic planning and project delivery.
Career path
Libby began her veterinary career in companion animal practice before exploring a long-held interest in veterinary immunology and infectious disease, undertaking a master’s degree in veterinary immunology, followed by a PhD in feline virology and immunology. Previous roles include positions at Glasgow’s School of Veterinary Medicine including Registrar in Infectious Diseases, Academic Head of the Virology Diagnostic Laboratory and leading the Infectious Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Additionally, she is a Founding Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM), previously serving as Secretary.
As Diagnostic Laboratories Manager, Libby will support the RVC in its clinical, teaching and research missions, contributing to developing the strategy and services of the Diagnostic Laboratories, aiding the integration of digital pathology technologies, and ensuring clients continually receive expert-led diagnostic, research and second opinion service.
