In collaboration with domestic and international colleagues, the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted a microfungal survey in the Xizang Autonomous Region, China, focusing on the orders Pleosporales and Kirschsteiniotheliales within the class Dothideomycetes.
Using morphological characterization and multi-gene (ITS, LSU, SSU, tef1, tub2, and rpb2) phylogeny analyses, they reported the discovery of ten new taxa and clarified the phylogenetic relationships of these fungi.

They proposed one new genus, Neotriplosphaeria, and nine new species: Kirschsteiniothelia linzhiensis, K. yadongensis, Neotriplosphaeria yadongensis, Periconia linzhiensis, Tetraploa linzhiensis, Torula dingjieensis, T. yadongensis, Trichobotrys motuoensis, and Triseptatospora yadongensis, as well as one new host record.
This work addresses classification challenges of microfungi in the Xizang Autonomous Region, highlights the Plateau’s significant role in fungal diversity, and underscores the importance of continued exploration in this region.
The study is published in Mycology: An International Journal on Fungal Biology.
