The society is keen to recruit an active microbiologist working in an area that covers at least one of AMI’s goals and has experience of serving on a board or committee in a voluntary or paid capacity.

The ideal candidate would have an awareness of the legal duties of trustees and best practice in governance and have a strong personal commitment to diversity and inclusion.

AMI are looking for strong listening skills and the ability to ask challenging questions, and bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role.

Senior Leadership Team

As an Honorary Officer of AMI, the General Secretary will be part of the Senior Leadership Team and will remain actively involved with relevant AMI activity. The Senior Leadership Team meets monthly via Teams at a time that accommodates trustees based across the globe.

The General Secretary is appointed by the Executive Committee for a three-year term of office and will also deputise for the President where necessary.  On average the General Secretary will need to commit four half days per month (plus some preparation time) to responsibilities with AMI.

Diversity ethos

AMI is committed to diversity and inclusion and particularly encourages applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds - we believe that success is built on having teams whose backgrounds and personal experiences reflect the diversity of our membership base. Qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to their race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
